Only because the slots weren't big enough for bagles and muffins. I bought this one also made by Proctor-Silex mainly because of the track record of my old one. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the other ones on the market but it does make great toast evenly done on both sides. So if all you want is a great toaster at a low price then this is the one for you.
